  1. Benefits to Students of Studying at Columbia

The key component of CVN is flexibility without compromise to the high caliber teaching, resources and standards inherent in the Columbia School of Engineering and Applied Science. Flexible degree requirements and interdepartmental curricula allow programs to be tailored to address the individual needs of practitioners in the field. Among the benefits CVN offers to participating students are the following:

    • A degree from Columbia University -- one of the world's leading research institutions -- identical to the degree earned by on-campus students;
    • Instruction by, and access to, leading researchers and theorists in engineering, applied science, and management;
    • Full student support services that allow students to focus on their educations and their careers.

  1. Benefits to Companies of Sponsoring a Columbia Education

Companies throughout the United States, Europe and Asia have chosen CVN to provide professional development for their employees. Participating companies recognize the obvious value a Columbia education can provide to its employees and reciprocally to the company itself in a highly competitive and rapidly evolving field.

Among the benefits CVN offers to participating companies are the following:

    • CVN delivers course materials directly to the worksite thereby maximizing productivity of employee students and reducing lost work time due to commuting time demands;
    • Participating companies boost their reputation in the industry and are more successful in attracting top new-hires;
    • The continued professional development and longevity of engineering employees is insured by providing the opportunity for employees to remain at work while continuing their education.

In order to establish a CVN program, participating companies should be able to provide the following support services:

    • Financial sponsorship through an employee tuition-assistance program;
    • A designated location for the drop-off and pick-up of course materials and a suitable address for express-mail service;
    • Designation of a site contact to facilitate certain administrative duties (this can be a student enrolled in the CVN program);
    • Student access to the Internet and World Wide Web;

  1. Payment method

Unlike many high-quality distance-learning programs, Columbia's CVN program does not require a membership fee for participation in the Columbia Video Network.

Most companies participating in the CVN program pay the tuition and applicable fees for their enrolled employees. For such companies, CVN bills the company directly - itemized by student - and the site administrator works closely with CVN (accounting@cvn.columbia.edu).
Note: Students whose companies sponsor employee education should be certain all necessary signatures are obtained and copies are sent to the appropriate people in the HR or Training department(s) to ensure the student is eligible for tuition assistance.

Independent students and international students, along with students who will be reimbursed for tuition at a later date by their employers, must pay tuition upon registration up front (international students must use certified checks).

When paying by check, the check needs to be received at CVN by the first day of classes. Please check the Academic Calendar or our website (http://www.cvn.columbia.edu) for the first day of classes.

WIRE TRANSFER:

For some students, particularly international students, wiring payments is an easy and convenient method. When wiring, it is important to realize that specific information is needed in order to credit your individual account with the payment.

The students also have the option now to pay for CVN tuition via wire transfer. To ensure that your funds are adequately transferred to CVN, remember to include in the detail field your name and Social Security or nine-digit Columbia University identification number along with the notation 'Tuition Payment-CVN-9972.'  Failure to do so by the initiating bank will delay posting of your payment to your student account. If you do not have a Columbia University ID number, please send us e-mail at records@cvn.columbia.edu to get one.

The routing information that your initiating bank will need is:

Account Number: 2000011750143
ABA Number: 031201467

Address:

 Wachovia Bank NA
50 Main Street,
White Plains, New York 10606
