Certification of Professional Achievement in Business and Technology


The Certification Program in Business and Technology is designed to provide students with an understanding of contemporary technology and management. It is for students who are interested in a technical-management background rather than one in a traditional engineering field. It consists of courses intended to provide a foundation for dealing with engineering and management systems problems.


Required Courses:

Core Courses:

IEOR E4004: Introduction to Operations Research - Deterministic Models
or IEOR E4007: Optimization Models and Methods for Financial Engineers*

IEOR E4106: Introduction to Operations Research - Stochastic Models
or IEOR E4701: Stochastic Models for Financial Engineering*

Choose 2 of the following Management courses.

IEOR E4000: Production Management

IEOR E4003: Industrial Economics
or IEOR E4403: Advanced Engineering and Corporate Economics

IEOR E4210: Supply Chain Management

IEOR E4407: Game Theory Models of Operation

IEOR E4418: Logistics and Transportation Management

IEOR E4510: Project Management of Complex Systems

IEOR E4601: Dynamic Pricing and Revenue Management

IEME E4310: The Manufacturing Enterprise

* Course focuses on applications to the financial services industry. Only one course, not both, can be applied to a degree program from the IEOR department.



Program Requirements:

4 Graduate-level classes all earned through CVN, as a non-degree student. Students currently in any degree program at Columbia University are not eligible for the Certification Program through CVN.

Minimum of 12 credit points

Minimum GPA of 3.0

Completion of program within two (2) calendar years.

Credits earned to fulfill the requirements of a Certification Program may be applied toward an MS or PD degree in the same field of study, subject to the approval of an Academic Advisor. However, students must apply for admission to the University and meet all admissions requirements. Entry into and completion of a Certification Program does not ensure acceptance into an MS or PD program.
